Dear Indivisible Southern Delaware Members,
This is from Alex Pretti’s parents.
"We are heartbroken but also very angry.
Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.”
I feel inspired by his heroism. Please join us in celebrating him on Saturday
Sign Wave Alternate Activity
PLEASE READ:
Due to the insufficiently cleared, icy and dangerous areas where our sign waves normally take place on Saturdays, Indivisible is instead asking all members to join us for a Memorial procession and service of reflection and connection for Alex Pretti. We will begin in Lewes at the Cape May Ferry parking area. We will be lining up starting at 2:30 with a 3:00 departure from that lot. The procession will go from Lewes through Rehoboth and Dewey and turning around at Tower Road. We will then head through Rehoboth and back out to Route 1 where we will go to Epworth. We will be having a memorial service at Epworth United Methodist Church at 4:00 pm.
**Watch for additional route information on our webpage, Facebook page and via an email update from us or through mobilize, if necessary.**

- Eyes on County Council Volunteer Discussion, Information &Training -
The vigorous property development in Sussex County and the lack of appropriate infrastructure along with the rapid population growth it brings, challenge all of us to protect and advance the public interest. In order to learn how local issues are being addressed and decided, the Eyes on County Council initiative was formed in early 2025 to consistently attend and observe County Council meetings. The goal is to be aware of land use decisions which have a potential impact on the broad public interest and share details with interested advocacy organizations.
EoCC will hold an informational/training session on January 15, 10:30 AM at Lewes Library. We’d like to hear from current volunteers about what’s working and what’s not, to give guidelines on participation to new or potential volunteers, and to answer questions that people may have. We welcome anyone who would like to come and listen. We are also looking for volunteers to attend County Council meetings! Please contact Alison @ abwsierra@gmail.com with any questions!

ON-GOING ACTIONS:
Citizen's Bank
- Shame on Citizens Bank for their Complicity in funding ICE Detention Centers. We want to force Citizens Bank (CB) to quit funding CoreCivic and GEO, who build and run the for-profit prisons being used to hold ICE detainees under deplorable conditions.
We have a Citizens Bank here in Lewes, and plan to schedule a protest there; stay tuned!
Below are some actions taken by our Northern DE chapter of Indivisible; you can add to their impact by joining in the actions below:
Action 1: Social Media Campaign
We want to target the Citizens Bank Facebook page this week. As people go to the page to write wonderful things about CB’s customer service and philanthropy, they will also get a dose of the truth about Citizens’ funding of for-profit prisons. Get to their Facebook page using this link: https://www.facebook.com/CitizensBank.MortgageLoans/mentions and leave them a comment yourself or comment on ours. We need to amplify the message!
Action 2: Send an email to Dan Fitzpatrick President, CB Mid-Atlantic (daniel.k.fitzpatrick@citizensbank.com)
If you haven't already done so, write a letter to Citizen's Bank executives to voice your anger. Tim Travers continues to “correspond” with emails to Dan Fitzpatrick, President, CB Mid-Atlantic. Click HERE to see his example. Remember that it is very important to use your own words and not make something a form letter.
We have Mr. Fitzpatrick's attention; he is sending people from his team to support the branch manager on the days we protest at the Concord Pike location. We need to keep up the pressure. Philadelphia and Delaware County are also protesting at CB sites throughout the area.
STATEWIDE - Calls to Action
Avelo
Actions you can take from home:
o Please also ask Delaware officials to cease having taxpayer funds going to support Avelo-- as long as Avelo continues to fly for ICE. Avelo's own flight attendants are concerned (see more here: Avelo ).
o Complete the Avelo Pledge focused on Delaware and Gov Meyer (AVELO PLEDGE)
ACTION: Write or call the President of the university, Laura Carlson, at president@udel.edu requesting speedy implementation of a policy to value human rights and safety and not just low cost, and to cease the use of Avelo for charter flights or business travel.
SAMPLE MESSAGE:
I’m writing to ask the University of Delaware to cease use of Avelo Airlines, as long as Avelo flies for ICE. President Carlson's idea to revise selection criteria for air flights that includes valuing human rights and safety should be accelerated. The university strives for respect of all communities, and supporting Avelo violates this long tradition of university values. Please institute a policy to not allow university employees or athletic teams to fly on Avelo by year-end.
Keep Delaware free of ICE flights and planes used for ICE.
Sincerely,
(your name)
AVELO SUCCESSES: So far, this campaign has already begun to work. So far we have gotten
- Out & About Magazine to stop accepting DRBA ads that mention Avelo
- Latinofest (name?) dropped Avelo as a sponsor;
- DRBA to put a statement on their website about Avelo and
- Avelo billboards are gone from the places they were in Southern DE- There are airport ads but Avelo boards vaporized!!!!!

MESSAGE FROM INDIVISIBLE NATIONAL:

<><><><><><><> Recap:
On Saturday, 11/15, ISD had great representation during our Rt. 1 sign waves; thank you to all who participated. Please ask a friend to join you; that might be just the nudge they need to get involved. This week, we had one frog, one bear, three dogs for democracy, 111 people on the North side, and 75 on the South side of Coastal Highway. Way to go, everyone, dogs, frogs & bears!! Thank you all!!Our community of Indivisible Southern Delaware (ISD) has been courageous as we peacefully wave signs on Coastal Highway, every Saturday, reminding those who support but aren’t physically standing with us, that we are waving for them as well.
We’re in a moment of authoritarian breakthrough: The Trump regime is doing everything it can to rapidly consolidate power, stomp out dissent, and dismantle democratic checks and balances. But the regime can’t do all that alone. They rely on the people’s silence and fear, as well as the complicity of elected officials and those in other systems of power to acquiesce.

COURAGE COLLECTIVES -- a new National Indivisible Program
The National Indivisible organization is rolling out a new program, and we encourage you to read about it and hope it encourages you to get more involved. Their initiative is closely aligned with what we already do here in Southern Delaware with our various committees. (i.e. Combatting Project 2025’s Disinformation committee and presentations) THIS IS NATIONAL's DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM.
Corporate leaders. Faith organizations. Educational institutions. Civil servants. Law enforcement. Trump needs these pillars of society, among others, to uphold his authority as he grasps for permanent power. Without their cooperation, his fascist house of cards collapses.Indivisible National is working to transform the societal pillars upholding Trump’s power into unyielding opponents of his regime. It won’t be easy, and it won’t happen all at once. It’s going to take all of us -- relentlessly organizing within the various groups and communities we are part of -- to show those in power that there’s more to lose from complicity than from noncooperation. That’s why we're piloting a brand new program called Courage Collectives.
What is a Courage Collective?
Courage Collectives are groups of everyday people with a common interest, experience, or background who work together to organize noncooperation against the Trump regime. In essence, Courage Collectives identify a “pillar of power” that they share a connection to -- then push that pillar to take a stand against Trump.A Courage Collective might look like a band of alumni pushing their alma mater to reject Trump’s anti-democratic funding deals... Or a faith congregation urging its leaders to speak out against the MAGA agenda… Or a team of musicians and podcasters demanding that Spotify stop playing ICE propaganda. The possibilities are truly endless, and we’re encouraging everyday folks to form as many collectives as we can. Here are just a few of the Courage Collectives that Indivisibles like you have organized already:
United in Faith: a coalition of progressive churches and people of faith in Snohomish County, WA fighting back against Trump's misuse of religion to spread authoritarianism
Cornell Courage: a Cornell alumni network pushing the university to reject Trump’s attacks on free speech, academic freedom, and campus DEI initiatives
Educators Resist: a team of teachers, faculty, and school administrators in Sacramento, CA organizing local educators to organize against authoritarian education policies
United Veteran-Civilian Response: veterans and civilians in Seattle, WA collectively pushing back against threats of a Trump military takeover in their city
So what can you do?We’re calling on you (yes, you!) to form a Courage Collective if you’re able.Think about the many hats you wear in your everyday life -- parent, worker, student, alumnus, donor, veteran, or any other group you belong to -- and how you can work with your peers in one of those groups to push back on Trump’s authoritarian power-grab.
When you’re ready, complete the form linked here to start the process of forming a Courage Collective! We’ll then reach out with training, resources, and support to get your group off the ground.
Start a collective >>Through historic mass protests, tireless advocacy, and that Election Day beatdown a few weeks ago, we’ve already shown the world that Trump’s opposition is widespread and powerful. But to truly end his authoritarian threat, we need to build a brave, relentless backlash within every facet of society.Too many pillars of society are still scared to stand against Trump. But courage is contagious, and Courage Collectives are how we spread it.

Actions & Info Newsletter November 10, 2025
“We’re not watching history happen, we’re making it!”"Everybody counts in applying democracy. And there will never be a true democracy until every responsible and law-abiding adult in it, without regard to race, sex, color or creed has his or her own inalienable and unpurchasable voice in government." ~ Carrie Chapman Catt
URGENT ACTIONS
Call Coons and Blunt Rochester NOW!
Word was just shared by National Indivisible that several Democrats have joined Republicans to vote to end the shutdown with no changes to the ACA.
Call Senators Chris Coons and Lisa Blunt Rochester now, immediately. Message: "Thanks for holding the line up until now, and please keep doing so. DO NOT CAVE. Hold strong and protect healthcare! Reject Shumer as Leader"
Chris Coons: 202-224-5042Lisa Blunt Rochester: 202-224-2441
While Coons and Blunt Rochester did not fold, they have not yet ousted Shumer.
Here’s an alternative script:
Hello, I’m a constituent from Delaware, and I’m calling to ask [Senator Coons or Blunt Rochester] to call for Senator Schumer to step aside as Minority Leader, to allow someone new to lead. Sen. Schumer has once again caved and allowed a budget that will harm millions of Americans to sail through the Senate. Voters showed up in historic numbers this November to show they wanted leaders willing to hold the line against Trumpism. They want fighters.Schumer has shown he’s not up for the fight. Senator [Coons or Blunt Rochester] must call on Schumer to step down.
<><><><><><><><><><><><>CANCEL SPOTIFY
From National:
“Spotify is running ads recruiting agents for ICE.”
“Let that sink in. A platform built to connect creators and listeners is helping an authoritarian regime build up its secret police force. They’re choosing complicity over the artists, podcasters, and fans who make Spotify what it is -- and when users and musicians called them out, Spotify’s first act was doubling down.”“But we’re not going to idly accept that. We’re going to make them listen.”
National Indivisible is asking anyone who subscribes to Spotify Premium to cancel your subscription until Spotify stops running ICE ads. Click here to watch step-by-step instructions on how to cancel Spotify Premium. When ABC/Disney capitulated to the Trump regime by silencing Jimmy Kimmel this year, millions of paying customers spoke up by canceling their Disney+ subscriptions and putting off their Disney vacations. It worked. The same people-power that made ABC/Disney reverse course can work on Spotify. Spotify needs its listeners and subscribers far more than it relies on advertisers. If enough of us cancel our subscriptions, it’ll send a clear message that's too loud for Spotify to ignore. To catch Spotify leaders’ attention and compel them to stop capitulating, we need to move fast and in unison, so we’re asking anyone who can to cancel your Spotify Premium subscriptiontoday. Read on for more tools and info, including ways to join this fight even if you aren’t a Spotify user!DID YOU CUT TIES WITH SPOTIFY YET? Please click or tap the option most applicable to you to complete our one-click survey:🔘Yes, I stopped using Spotify and/or canceled my Spotify Premium subscription!🔘I haven’t canceled Spotify yet -- but I will now!🔘No, I have never used Spotify.🔘No, I won’t cancel Spotify for another reason.Your one-click response helps capture the impact of our campaign so we can turn the pressure on Spotify up even further! If you have any questions about how or why we’re holding Spotify accountable, please check out our previous message below.-- Indivisible Team
NOT a Spotify subscriber? How to take action:
If you're not a Spotify Premium subscriber, there’s still a meaningful place for you in this campaign! Chances are high that you know someone -- a child, grandchild, friend, or social follower -- who uses Spotify Premium, and pushing your favorite artists and podcasters to speak out with us is also really helpful.
Here's how you can make a difference if you don't subscribe to Spotify:Use our pre-made social posts to support the Cancel Spotify campaign online. Post to all your favorite social networks to raise awareness of Spotify’s complicity, our campaign, and how to cancel.
Urge artists, podcasters, and labels to publicly denounce these ads and pressure Spotify leadership. If you know anyone who creates music or content for Spotify, please reach out to them directly. If you don’t, use social media to publicly call on your favorite artists to join the fight.
Attend a peaceful protest outside Spotify offices*. We’ll share information on peaceful and nonviolent protests as they are planned, and we encourage you to organize a peaceful protest of your own if Spotify has a presence in your community.

FOOD FOR ALL: Food Drive Wednesday October 29th
On Wednesday October 29, we had a very successful "Food for All " drive. We thank Maggie Ottato and her merry band of foodsters who came out and volunteered their time to make our "Food for All" drive so successful. Below is a list of all our foodsters:Angela Pierce, Ann Trussell, Alice Muztafago, Bob Dunbar, Butch Bosin, David Krantz, Deborah Honthumb, Denise Jackson, Josephine Singles, Julie Vandermeyers, Linda Rolla, Lisa Hering, Maggie Ottato, Michael Duffy, Rosalie Galante, Silvia Martinez, Susan Weaver, Terri Collotion, Todd McDonald
A special thanks to Julie Vandermeyer, who appeared as an angel to do some shopping and was immediately recruited to come back at 5PM to help deliver excess donations. 😁😁😁
And of course, we need to applaud Silvia Martinez, David Krantz, and Todd McDonald who had the 3-5PM shift and persevered through the rain.☂️☂️
And we must not forget to thank and thank LOUDLY all the volunteers in our local pantries who spend their time and energy to always be there to receive our donations. At our last “Food for All" drive, Indivisiblesode foodsters were able to collect over 150 bags of groceries and deliver them to Milton Community Food Pantry, Community Resource Center, and Cape Henlopen Food Basket.

Delaware has a fee structure that results in people being incarcerated simply because they can't pay court-related fees. This Campaign has been working to change the fees and the process so that people cannot be stuck in the system simply because of these fees. Budget hearings related to funding requests by agencies affectPlease Note: Please RSVP to mdede@tideshiftjustice.org if you are planning to attend these hearings. The hearings above are budget hearings where state agencies (in these cases State Police and the Courts-- the two agencies impacted by our bills) ask the Governor's Office for their annual budget requests. They are open to the public, but note: The public rarely attends. If we have even 5 people show up, it will be memorable and noted. If we have 15 people show up? It'll be epic. If we have 25 people show up? It'll be history-making.The hearings are 10-11 a.m., with public comment last. There is flexibility if folks can only join late, etc., but we don't have a lot of control over the timing of things, so to be on the safe side, we're anticipating this will take a little over an hour. We anticipate that in-person will be most impactful, but there is also a virtual option to join. So come be a part of history ;)

Consider where you are shopping, restaurants you frequent, clothing stores and even where you buy your Insurance, your Car Gas, etc…. Example: TARGET has noticed the drop in sales because of their actions and contributions to the extremists. There are many others who have overwhelmingly given more to this Administration and are not concerned about the citizens, and only for their own pockets and the pockets of their shareholders.

“We’re not watching history happen, we’re making it!”
"No Kings Day is not merely a protest—it is a collective rebalancing of the civic ecosystem, a moment when ordinary citizens remind their leaders that the republic belongs to the people.” -James Greenberg
No Kings Day 2.0 was a huge success!
And that is putting it mildly! As we are living in a time of political violence, safety was our number one priority and we can proudly say there were no incidents. No Kings Day 2.0 would not have been possible without each of you who attended and those who volunteered.
Special shout out to the safety team: Mary Nix, Pam Phillips-Rossi, Ilene Klein, Steven Preston, Dee Marlin, Bob Dunbar, Butch Bosin, Terri Colloton, Gail Atchison, Linda Piffer, Thom Croce and our leader, Samantha Maloney- Gracie. They were trained via webinars, workbooks and handouts on how to de-escalate any situation and keep everyone safe! We don't have enough words to express our appreciation.
A million thanks to them and to ALL of you who attended, brought your creative spirits, supported and/or volunteered to make it the success it was!
Sincerely, Your ISD Leadership Team

No Kings Day, 10-18-2025 Recap
ISD held protests in 6 different locations in Sussex County
We had and over 4,000 people on Route 1 in Rehoboth, Lewes and Bethany. In total, ISD hosted well over 5,000 southern Delaware participants contributing to the Indivisible National totals.
The music at the Georgetown Rally was great thanks to DJ Sue P. (AKA RBG) on the turntable, as was the Food Truck -- TACOS CHABELITAS, our Amazing Georgetown Law Enforcement Officers who went the extra mile, and the spontaneous volunteers who helped carry stuff and set up chairs. We know there were many unsung heroes and sheroes, and it really did take a village of volunteers to make all of the pieces fit together. Speakers included: our only Federal member of the House of Representatives, Sarah McBride, and from our co-sponsors (SOAH, LWV, ACLU and SDARJ) and supporters.
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE & PEACEFU CELEBRATION OF OUR LOVE OF COUNTRY, OUR CONSTITUTION AND OUR COMMUNITY HERE IN SUSSEX COUNTY, DELAWARE.
We need and encourage YOUR continued involvement to build on the progress we have made. You can help us grow our membership, increase our partnerships and donors, use our collective purchasing power to chip away at the regime's base of support, and help those who have been harmed by the cuts to programming and the kidnapping of our neighbors.
No King's Day - What's Next
The No Kings movement nationally is developing weekly actions all of us can take to harness the power of our movement. WE encourage everyone to check NO KINGS / NEXT (https://www.nokings.org/next ) every Wednesday for updated actions.

Join us for the next protest on Saturday, Nov 8th 11 am-noon, in front of the Wilmington Airport. Our partner organization up north - IHB - is working on multiple fronts, in close partnership with DE Stop Avelo Coalition, to force Avelo to cancel its contract with ICE Deportations. Our airport protests are just one tactic. To get the attention of the public and the media, we need hundreds of us out there.
